Free Pattern Friday: Mermaid Tail Bralette!
I can't believe next week is the beginning of May! Time feels like it's just flying by this year. I've been busy at work the past couple days designing new patterns for you guys. I'm even attempting my first amigurumi pattern (wish me luck, I'm going to need all I can get!)
After creating my Geo-Trim bralette, I knew these summer tops would become the focus of my attention these next couple weeks... or until I get sick of them. During a recent trip to Walmart, I found these amazing Red Heart Stripes skeins, and they are PERFECT. The colors in each skein are so vibrant and work together seamlessly, especially when creating even rows. Now the hard part will be coming up with enough projects to put all these skeins I bought to good use- shh, don't tell my husband!
I initially tried designing this top as more of a bandeau, but the cups didn't fit quite right and I dreaded the idea of ripping everything apart and starting over. So instead, I salvaged the bra cups, turned them to create a triangle top and kept the same band design as originally planned.
This pattern is extremely similar (in fact, almost identical) to my Geo-Trim Bralette, with the only big differences being the size of the bra cups & less strapping in the back. Other than that, the band on this bralette has one more geo-pattern row & less rows between them, and doesn't have the patterned trim around the bra cups. Since both bralettes are built the same, it's very easy to exchange & modify the design & colors between the two.

Notes
This pattern & bralette pictured above is a size Medium.
To modify the bra cup for larger or smaller sizes, either increase/decrease the number of rows (adjusts the cup width), or increase/decrease the number of beginning chains (adjusts the cup height). The band width or # of chains in lace-up tie may need to be modified as well
When creating the bra cups, each 3sc group is made in the middle stitch of the 3sc group of the previous row. The number of single crochet stitches on each side of the cup will also increase by 1 each row
The chain at the beginning of each row on the bra cup does not count as 1, and the first sc of each round should be created in the same stitch as the chain
To get the same color progression in the band using “Parrot Stripe”, begin with seafoam green (color right before it switches into blue)
Bra Cup Pattern (x2- Aran)
Ch 16 & starting in 2nd ch from hook, create 1sc in next 14 chains & 3sc in last chain (this will create the top point of the cup). Rotate chain & continue down other side, creating 1sc in each chain until end (14sc on each side & 3sc at top)
Ch1 & turn. Create 1sc in next 15 stitches, 3sc in the 16th stitch (the middle stitch of the previous 3sc group), and 1sc in the last 15 stitches.
Continue this pattern (1sc in each stitch -increasing by 1 each round, 3sc in middle stitch from previous 3sc group, & 1sc in each of the remaining stitches) until there are 24sc on each side plus the 3sc group at the top. F/O & weave in tail.
Band Pattern (Parrot Stripe)
Ch 25 & working in bottom of the bra cup from right to left, create 1sc in each stitch across (I worked 25 in each cup). Once you have reached the last stitch in the 1st cup, ch 5 & repeat step for 2nd cup. Ch 26 to complete band.
Turn & starting in 2nd chain from hook, create 1sc in each chain (chain might be backwards- this is okay. Create sc in top strand of chain as normal. Stitches should be created working away from bra cups).
(Geo Pattern) Ch 2 & turn. Create 1hdc in same stitch as chain & ch1. Skip next stitch & create 1hdc in next. Continue this pattern (1hdc, ch1, skip 1) until end of row (*If last stitch in row is a skip stitch, create 1hdc in last stitch as well).
Ch 1 & turn. Create 1sc in each stitch.
Ch1 & turn. Create 1sc in each stitch.
F/O & weave tail.
Straps & Tie Patterns
Lace-up tie: Ch 150 & F/O. Lace chain through end stitches of band, moving from top to bottom (I started in top end stitches, then through each ch1 space in “Geo Pattern”, and finally through bottom end stitches).

Back Strap: Attach yarn in middle stitch of 3sc group on top of bra cup. Ch 60 & attach using a slst into last stitch in band on the opposite side (straps should cross).
Front Straps: Attach yarn using a slst in 10th stitch down from top of cup where back strap is attached. Ch 15 & attach into 3rd chain in band between cups using a slst. Ch 15 & attach using slst into 10th stitch down from top of other cup. F/O & weave tails.
